Brigadier General Janet Phipps assumed duties as Assistant Adjutant General Army, Iowa National Guard, on 5 July 2007.  BG Phipps’ military service began in 1985 as a direct commission in the United States Army Reserve as a Specialty Corps officer.  She served in the USAR from 1985-96.  BG Phipps joined the Iowa National Guard in 1996.  She transferred to the Michigan National Guard for three years and returned to the Iowa National Guard in 2001.  She has commanded at the unit and battalion levels. 

BG Phipps attended Senior Service College from 2001-02 as a National Security Fellow at Harvard University.  Prior to her current assignment as Assistant Adjutant General-Sustainment Command, BG Phipps served as Assistant Adjutant General-Army, and Deputy Chief of Staff Operations and J3 at Joint Forces Headquarters, Iowa Army National Guard.

BG Phipps is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Iowa Commendation Medal, and the Iowa State Service Ribbon.
