introduction“I like to think we do the ‘lawyer thing’ differently,” says Megan Erickson. “In a good way,” she adds with a smile. Stuffy lawyering isn’t Megan’s style. But her tendency to avoid words like “heretofore” doesn’t minimize her aptitude for thinking outside the box to solve complex legal issues. “Clients should expect professionalism, as well as quality work-product and representation,” she explains. “I just want to deliver more than that. Results, professionalism, and even a little personality.” Why? Because personality of the people she works with – whether colleague or client – is Megan’s favorite part of her job. “Sure, I work with employers, businesses, courts, and other lawyers,” Megan says. “But that’s just another way of saying I work with people. Those people define my work as much as the law defines it.” Megan practices primarily in employment law, and maintains a general practice including but not limited to commercial litigation, appellate practice, business law, and civil rights. Her employment law practice focuses on defending and advising employers in employment-related issues and disputes, including restrictive covenants, personnel policies, as well as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wrongful termination issues. She helps clients defend contract disputes, business torts, and other commercial litigation. She also advises businesses on company formation, management structure, and other transactional issues. Megan is a frequent author and speaker on legal issues related to technology and social media in the workplace, maintains the Social Networking Law Blog, and has been interviewed and quoted by publications and websites across the country about the intersection of law and technology. “Ultimately, the success of my practice hinges not just on the substance of my work, but also on my relationships,” says Megan. “I understand clients generally don’t like the legal process itself. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t like their lawyer.” Areas of Practice |
