Sara Laughlin practices primarily in employment law and civil litigation. She also works in the areas of administrative law, HIPAA compliance, and fair housing.
Sara is experienced and knowledgeable in the employment areas of civil rights discrimination (sex, race, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, national origin, pregnancy), retaliation, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, FMLA, FLSA, whistleblower, and unemployment cases. Sara conducts in-house employee trainings, internal investigations of employee or customer complaints, and compliance reviews. She drafts and assists with enforcement of restrictive covenants such as non-competes.
Sara is also experienced in commercial litigation. Sara drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts. She is well versed in administrative law and has assisted many clients successfully navigate local, state, and federal government agency proceedings.
Sara has represented clients in state and federal court, as well as before various administrative agencies.
Before she entered private practice, Sara worked for two years as a judicial law clerk for the Fifth Judicial District of Iowa in Polk County. This experience offered Sara unique insight into the inner workings of the judicial system and gave her an advanced level of comfort and familiarity with courtroom practice.
