Penalty for certain workplace posting requirements to double

On Friday, April 18, 2014, the employer penalty for failing to abide by the notice posting requirements of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (Title VII), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) will increase from $100 per violation to $210 per violation. This increase is the result of a final rule recently promulgated by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Now is the time for employers to review compliance with all applicable posting requirements, not just those required by Title VII, the ADA, and GINA. A number of federal and state laws require employers to post notices in the workplace, and these requirements may vary depending on the size of the industry and number of employees.
