Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen, P.C. received a Patriotic Employer Award from Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) on September 1, 2011.  The firm was nominated to receive the prestigious award by Janet E. Phipps Burkhead, an attorney at the firm who also serves as a Brigadier General in the Iowa Army National Guard. "All attorneys and staff of Dickinson Law have taken a great interest in learning more about Iowa soldiers and airmen, and the sacrifices they make in wearing the uniform," stated Brigadier General Phipps. "The firm has taken the initiative on several fronts to support soldiers and their military service, including designing and producing free window stickers to be used when welcoming home our returning service men and women."   The stickers were recently distributed at the Community Bankers of Iowa annual meeting for use around the state. Phipps went on to explain that the firm's outreach program to its human resource clients includes conducting an annual employment law seminar, which frequently highlights employers' obligations to soldiers returning to civilian employment.  The firm also has published articles on the topic in its employment law e-newsletter and on its blogs.  The Patriotic Employer Award is given by ESGR to supportive managers, supervisors, or companies to show appreciation from military employees. Employers are nominated for the Patriotic Employer Award by military employees of a company. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. Its mission is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts.  PHOTO IDENTIFICATION (L to R): Richard Rue, Chair of Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve; Howard Hagen, Dickinson attorney and board member; Janet Phipps, Dickinson attorney and Brigadier General in the Iowa Army National Guard; and Rick Malm, Dickinson attorney and board member.
