We’re pleased to announce that Charles Telk III has joined Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen P.C. as an Associate Attorney.

Charles graduated in December with dual degrees including his Juris Doctorate with High Honors from Drake University Law School and a Master’s of Business Administration from Drake University. He earned an undergraduate degree in accounting from the University of Iowa and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

His work in the accounting field includes five years of experience as a tax CPA at Gardiner Thomsen, Kuhl Phillips & Jans, Inc. and Telk Enterprises; two years as a financial statement auditor, and a year as an internal control and financial consultant. He has also served as a clerk in the Iowa House of Representatives and as a Summer Associate at Dickinson last summer.

“Dickinson Law is a premier business law firm in the Des Moines area, and my interest in business served as a natural pull in the firm’s direction,” Charles said. “After spending a summer working in the various practice fields and with attorneys at the firm, I fell in love with the culture, atmosphere, and work. The firm really does act like a family and everybody is happy to provide constructive guidance at any time. Both serve to create an atmosphere of success and belonging.”

Combined with his CPA and accounting experience, Charles decided to take his career one step further by becoming an attorney to provide business clients and individuals with a comprehensive level of legal services. His practice at the firm will include a variety of business and taxation law, as well as tax planning and collection, trusts and estates law, mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance, licensing and administrative law. He will also practice in the areas of real estate law, banking and regulatory compliance, construction, contracts and agreements, and business formation and startups.

“I have an affinity for business and its complexity, and every form of business needs some type of accounting or legal services. I hope to create a practice that serves a wide variety of clients from all different types of industries, as well as individuals who are planning ahead or just need legal advice.”

Charles grew up in the metro area in Ankeny, where he resides currently. Outside of work, he enjoys hanging out with his fiancée, Hallie, staying active by walking his dog and working out, and reading.
