Startup and Fintech Leaders to Present at March 5th Seminar

If you are thinking about starting a business in 2020 or beyond, don't miss the Dickinson Law Startup Seminar on Thursday, March 5th at Gravitate Coworking Downtown, 500 Locust Street.

The event will include programming from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a complimentary happy hour from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Featuring topics relevant to early-stage ventures, from corporate formation to seed stage financing to intellectual property, you'll hear founder perspectives on these issues, as well as useful, actionable information from legal counsel who work with startup companies.

  • Dr. Martin Gross – CEO of Gross-Wen Technologies

    Gross-Wen is working to solve one of the world’s largest problems – water quality. Founded by Dr. Gross and Dr. Zhiyou Wenin in 2014, the company uses its patented wastewater treatment technology to recover nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater. The Ames-based company was named the 2019 Startup Technology Company of the Year by the Technology Association of Iowa.
     
  • Andy Snook – CEO of Fastpath, Inc.

    Founded in 2004, Fastpath is recognized as a leader in security, audit and compliance specializing in access certification and segregation of duties, reviews and monitoring. Designed by auditors for auditors, its solutions enable continuous controls monitoring, helping companies meet regulatory requirements without dramatically changing their business processes. The Fastpath client base includes over 1,100 customers in over 30 countries and spans across multiple industries, within both publicly traded and privately-held companies.

 

  • Terry Dooley – Executive VP/COO of SHAZAM

    With more than 30 years of experience in the electronic payments industry, Dooley is a member of SHAZAM’s executive management team. He leads the company’s business and product development, application development, IT infrastructure, corporate and IT security, vendor integration, and security consultation teams.
     
  • Ben Milne – Founder of Dwolla

    Dwolla, Inc. is a financial technology company that changed the way businesses send and receive funds. The company offers a seamless, white label API platform to connect to the ACH Network to initiate payments. Since co-founding the fintech in 2008, Milne and the company began creating the ideal platform to move money, and have helped move billions of dollars for millions of end-users annually for businesses of all shapes and sizes.
     
  • Melissa Schilling – Attorney

    Schilling has experience counseling emerging companies and established employers on a wide range of labor and employment issues, including cybersecurity, discrimination, harassment, FMLA and medical issues in the workplace, technology issues, and discipline matters. In her counseling practice, she takes a proactive approach to responding and resolving various employment issues and assists her clients in establishing policies and procedures necessary to comply with the ever-changing law.
     
  • Emily McGovern – Attorney

    McGovern assists new companies with their legal needs as they plant roots in Iowa and around the Midwest. Her practice focuses on a variety of issues, including banking, mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, privacy matters and cybersecurity. With the knowledge and experience needed to work with new companies and growing tech firms, she is focused on partnering with universities and incubators to help make Iowa one of the top states for successful startups.
     
  • Andrea Rastelli – Attorney

    Rastelli's practice specializes in providing solutions for startups and emerging companies, as well as established businesses and financial institutions, including cybersecurity, intellectual property, secured transactions, privacy and corporate governance. She has experience working in financial services on legal issues surrounding data privacy, intellectual property, and secured transactions. She has served as a mentor to girls interested in STEM fields.
