Howard Hagen

Howard chairs Dickinson’s Banking Law Group. He has counseled banks across Iowa for more than 30 years, in both good and troubled times. Howard has served as counsel to the Community Bankers of Iowa for more than 20 years.  He also serves on the Shazam, Inc.  Board and  on the Board of the Amana Society, Inc. and Amana Farms, Inc. where he grew up.   This year, he was the only Iowa attorney to be named a “Star Individual” for Corporate Mergers & Acquisitions: Banking & Finance by Chambers & Partners USA .

Brad Kruse

Brad has more than 20 years’ experience representing clients in bankruptcy, reorganization and creditors’ rights matters, including Chapter 7, 11, 12 and 13 bankruptcies, receiverships, foreclosures and collection actions. He also represents clients in corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions, contract negotiation and drafting, debt and equity financing, and business litigation.  

Ben Bruner

Ben practice covers banking and financial services, commercial and agricultural finance, real estate and corporate law. He advises a wide array of clients in all phases of institutional lending.  Additionally, he regularly advises commercial lenders and borrowers with regard to judicial and non-judicial foreclosure proceedings, UCC enforcement,  and bankruptcy. Ben’s work  has earned him recognition as an Up and Coming Leader in Iowa Real Estate Law from Chambers and Partners USA and inclusion 2019’s Best Lawyers in America.

Jeff Baxter

Jeffrey Baxter serves business clients in a variety of matters such as real estate acquisition, business formation and commercial foreclosure. He also provides advice in real estate, zoning and land matters, and represents businesses in a wide range of issues.   Jeff is active in his hometown of Ankeny where he serves on the Ankeny Chamber of Commerce Board, and the Ankeny Celebrates Education Committee.

Mollie Pawlosky

Through her commercial litigation practice, Mollie walks clients through complex litigation such as commercial foreclosure, collections and creditors’ rights, corporate governance disputes, construction litigation and mechanic’s lien disputes, and appellate work.  Chambers and Partners USA has recognized her as a leading individual in Iowa Commercial Litigation since 2009.

Amy Plummer

Amy’s practice includes banking law, corporate and business law, mergers and acquisitions, business formations, e-commerce and intellectual property law. She also assists clients on real estate transactions and general estate planning. Amy is a member of Dickinson’s Banking Law and Business & Corporate Law groups and currently serves on the firm’s Board of Directors.  She was just recognized by Best Lawyers In America for her work in Business Organizations, Closely Held Companies, and Family Business Law.

Bob Hickok

As a CPA and IT technician at Eide Bailly for more than 29 years, Bob combines the skillsets of cybersecurity, auditing, technician, accounting, business acumen, and controls testing to provide a unique approach to IT auditing, security testing, and consulting.   In his time working with Iowa Banks,  Bob has performed hundreds of IT Controls Reviews, Vulnerability Assessments, Penetration Tests, and Social Engineering Tests.

David Gonzales

David’s practice areas include banking law, banking regulation, and immigration. He also serves bank trust departments helping resolve trust administration issues.  Prior to pursuing a career in the law David worked for ten years in media relations and broadcasting for professional hockey teams and local radio stations both on and off the air. He also worked in crop input financing for six years, and is a veteran of the United States Army.

Laura Wasson

Laura is a member of Dickinson's Business and Banking Law Practice Groups. She counsels banks on corporate matters and assists them with regulatory compliance and M&A. She also advises businesses from start-up to maturity on issues including formation, corporate governance, contract review, and M&A.  Additionally, Laura works with businesses and banks to raise capital via private placements, submit documentation to the Securities and Exchange Commission, and generally comply with securities laws.  

Jesse Johnston

As a member of the Banking Law Group at Dickinson, Jesse helps clients understand the nuances of bank compliance and regulatory matters.  She handles matters dealing with Iowa Federal banking regulations  including issues like consumer privacy under the GLBA, BSA/AML compliance, and the complex home state/host state laws related to out-of-state bank branches.  Jesse also handles third-party contract reviews for vendors and servicers of banks including negotiating data processing agreements. 

Bryan O'Neill

As a member of the Employment & Labor Law Group, Bryan handles a range of cases that include discrimination, retaliation, FMLA, wage and hour, and wrongful termination. He also counsels clients on compliance with state and federal laws and ways to manage and avoid risks. Bryan has significant trial experience in state and federal court. Prior to joining the firm, Bryan practiced exclusively in plaintiff-side employment litigation. Prior to law school, he worked as a high school history and government teacher in the Des Moines area.

Melissa Schilling

Melissa focuses her practice on traditional labor law and employment litigation. Melissa counsels employers on labor and employment issues and policies, including FMLA and workplace medical issues, technology issues and discipline matters.  She also conducts training for employers on a wide range of employment issues.   Melissa’s work has earned her recognition from Chambers  & Partners USA as an Up and Coming Leader in Iowa Labor & Employment Law.

Emily Staudacher

As a lifelong farmer and Iowa native, Emily knows Iowa agriculture and agribusiness.  Her combination of family farm experience and work in the agribusiness industry give her unique insight to the practice of agricultural law in Iowa.  Prior to joining Dickinson, Emily worked with the Iowa Pork Producers Association, National Pork Producers Council, the United States Department of Agriculture and the Environmental and Farm Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s office. 

David Repp

As part owner of a family farm operation, David provides income tax, FICA tax and succession planning counsel to many farm clients.  He also counsels and advises clients with respect to the management of their wealth to minimize estate and inheritance taxes through the use of asset protection trusts, grantor trusts, powers of appointment, lifetime gifts, QTIP trusts and generation skipping trusts.  Best Lawyers named David the Des Moines 2018 Lawyer of The Year for Trust and Estates Law.
