Dickinson, Mackaman, Tyler & Hagen, P.C.

Dickinson attorneys have successfully handled a number of cases under Iowa’s Public Records Act, found in Iowa Code Chapter 22. When first enacted, the Iowa Public Records Act generally provided for disclosure of public records and had sweeping applicability. While the Act is still broad, the legislature has repeatedly added exceptions to the disclosure requirements, and there are now over sixty exceptions to the general openness requirement. The application of these exceptions may generate controversy.
